How a roof actually goes on
A roof is a system.
Not a stack of shingles.
Tear off to the deck. Replace what is rotten. Membrane the eaves and the valleys. Underlay the whole thing. Flash it new. Vent the ridge. Skip any one of those and the roof will still look finished from the street — for about three years.
- Full tear-off, never a layover
- Ice & water shield at every eave, valley and penetration
- Synthetic underlayment across the full deck
- New flashing everywhere — old metal is never re-used
- Balanced ventilation, so the roof does not cook from underneath

The material guides
25 roofing, gutter and siding types, each one drawn so you can see what it actually looks like — with what it lasts, what it costs relative to the others, and where it belongs. Read them before anybody quotes you.
Types of Roofing
Nine roof types you will actually see on a Philadelphia house — what each one is, what it costs relative to the rest, how long it lasts, and which ones we install.

Not the cheapest.
The ones who show you the photos.
Third generation, and it shows
Our founder was on a roof at eight years old, working beside his father and his grandfather. He started this company at seventeen. That is not a marketing line — it is why a twenty-four-year-old can look at a stain on your ceiling and tell you which flashing failed.
Houses only, on purpose
We do not chase warehouses or strip malls. Everything we do is residential, which means we are on roofs like yours every day and we know what the block you live on was built with.
You see what we see
Photographs of your actual roof before anything is quoted, and an itemised written estimate you can hold against anyone else's. If a contractor will not show you pictures of the damage they want to fix, that is your answer.
The whole exterior, one contractor
Roof, gutters, siding, capping and windows. When the roof and the gutter and the capping are all one company's work, there is nobody to point at when something leaks.
The short version
Third generation.
Same roofs.
Some people get into roofing. Our founder was born into it. What that buys you is not a story for a website — it is the twenty seconds it takes to look at a stain on your ceiling and know which flashing failed.
On a roof for the first time, carrying bundles and pulling nails alongside his father and his grandfather. Two generations of Philadelphia roofers, and a kid learning the trade the only way it actually gets learned.
Started his own company. Left the family crew and went out on his own name, in the same city, on the same kind of houses — with everything both of them had taught him.
MG Roofing Inc., licensed and insured in Pennsylvania, working residential roofs, flat roofs, siding, gutters, capping and windows across Philadelphia ever since.
How we work
Six steps, and you
see all of them.
You call, or you ask for the inspection
One phone number, and it is answered by someone who works on roofs. Emergencies get handled the same day — around the clock, not just business hours.
We get on your roof, free
Not a look from the driveway. We walk the roof, check the flashing, the penetrations, the ventilation and the gutters, and go into the attic where we can.
You get photos and a straight answer
Pictures of your own roof and a plain-English read on what shape it is in — including the times the answer is that it is fine and you should call us in four years.
A written estimate, itemised
The whole system in writing: tear-off, decking allowance, membrane, underlayment, shingle, flashing, ventilation, cleanup. Nothing vague, nothing to argue about later.
Scheduled, and your property protected
A real date, and a crew that tarps the landscaping, protects the driveway and keeps the site tight. Your house is never left open overnight.
Final walk and a magnet sweep
We walk it with you, hand over the paperwork and warranty registration, and run a magnet over the whole perimeter until it stops picking up nails.
Before & after
Cupped, curled
and losing granules.
Drag it across. The left is what we take off most weeks in this city — tabs lifting, granules gone, somebody's roof cement over the flashing. The right is a complete GAF system, laid to spec, on a deck we actually looked at.
